Water and Mud Rescues

In 2022 we had 63 water/mud related rescues, tackling the issues from land is our first priority, but sometimes it is necessary to enter the water with various pieces of safety equipment. Generally you will see volunteers in: Waders or Dry Suit, Life jackets, High Visibility clothing, thermals (during cold weathers), helmets and goggles (depending on the rescue) + Leash line to land.

While trained volunteers will assist in as many water rescues as they can, there are situations where we will NOT attempt water rescues, even in good conditions… An example of these could be: Fast Moving Waters, Deep Mud, Unknown Areas, Areas of Blue/Green algae, Areas with steep banks, Water Locks and Reservoirs, rescues at night/dark.

These are all for the safety of our volunteers, their lives and safety will always come first.

We advise that public never enter the water to make your own rescue, in the wrong conditions, this could be fatal.
