Stomp out volunteer abuse!
Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue - NO ABUSE POLICY
A policy that no volunteer service should need, is a NO ABUSE POLICY… But sadly, abuse of volunteers is a widespread issue across the UK, and a recent study of wildlife rehabbers showed that (X AMOUNT) had been victim to abuse by members of the public and (X amount) had suffered an impact on their mental wellbeing due to abuse they’ve faced.
This is something we are NOT prepared to allow our volunteers to face or accept as part of their role. We are not robots on the other end of the phone, we’re people.
Our response to abuse:
Those who abuse our volunteers will be blacklisted from using our service again, If they find an injured or sick animal, they will be required to have someone else message or call us on their behalf.
If someone is abusive to a volunteer while we’re arranging help for a sick or injured animal, they will be redirected to a vet practice or alternative rescue where a volunteer can collect the animal/bird.
If we feel attending a rescue puts volunteers at risk of verbal or physical abuse, we will not attend until the abusive party has left, or until there is a police presence to ensure the safety of our team.
If there are threats made to any volunteer, we reserve the right to contact the police to ensure our teams safety.
