This is a rare and exciting opportunity to support wildlife as a foster volunteer from home. As a wildlife rehabilitator volunteer, you'll play a crucial role in caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. However, this position is both demanding and rewarding, requiring a strong commitment to the welfare of the wildlife we rescue.
Our foster volunteers rehabilitate wildlife from home using provided or approved equipment. We follow a traffic light system (Red, Yellow, Green) to guide the progression of each volunteer. New candidates begin as "Red" fosterers, primarily caring for easier species. As they develop their skills and experience, fosterers progress through the system, enabling them to take on more challenging species.
To ensure the highest standards of care, successful candidates will be required to complete comprehensive training before being entrusted with rehabilitation responsibilities. All necessary equipment will be provided upon completion of the training.
By the end of your training, you'll be able to:
Understand the legal aspects of wildlife rehabilitation
Set up suitable enclosures for individual species
Triage injured animals and make ethical welfare decisions
Complete admission and health history forms for each case
Accurately weigh wildlife casualties
Identify signs of deterioration
Discuss treatment plans with lead rescuers and vets
Understand the specific needs of each animal in rehabilitation
Recognise your limits and know when to seek additional support
Plan and prepare for a release back into the wild
Before applying, please consider the following important factors:
Do you have the time to dedicate to rehabilitating a wild animal back to health?
Are you the homeowner, or do you have permission from the homeowner?
Do you have sufficient space for proper care?
Is your rehabilitation area quiet?
Can your rehab area be isolated from pets and other animals?
Are you comfortable with routine welfare inspections?
Are you within close proximity of Cleethorpes?
This role is a vital part of our rescue efforts, and we are looking for compassionate, dedicated volunteers ready to make a difference.
Training:
Once the application period has closed, we will review all submissions and score them using a point-based system. If your application is successful, you will be invited to an interview, which may take place either virtually or in person. Following a successful interview, you will be enrolled in our training program. Please note that there is a significant amount of training required before you can begin admitting wildlife casualties. We understand that attending every training session can be challenging, so we will do our best to schedule sessions based on majority availability. However, all training must be completed before you can accept any wildlife admissions
